Matthew Lancaster, BS Exercise Science
Matthew Lancaster was born and raised in Savannah, Ga. He played recreational, travel, and school baseball up until the age of 18 years old. He was a pitcher for his high school team, South Effingham Mustangs. He made JV team his freshmen and sophomore years and made the varsity team his Junior and Senior years. He was a left handed, side arm pitcher that had an arsenal of pitches that included fastball (2-seam & 4-seam), curveball, change up, and a splitter.
In Matt's junior year (07-08), his team made it to the Final Four and in his Senior year (08-09) they made it to the Elite Eight. They were 1st in their division (3A-AAA) and ranked 26th in the state of Ga with an overall record of 24-7 in 2007-2008. They were 2nd in their division (2-AAAA), 10th in Georgia Class AAAA division, and ranked 47th in the state of Ga with an overall record of 15-5 in 2008-2009. South Effingham High School is also known to be the high school Josh Reddick, 2012 AL Gold Glove winner outfielder that plays for the Oakland A's, calls home. Matt was coached by Tony Kirkland, now head coach of Colquitt County High School. During the six years Coach Tony Kirkland was with the Mustangs, the Mustangs went 138-50, won four region championships, and advanced to the state semifinals four times. Once Matt graduated high school in 2009, he attended University of South Carolina in Beaufort for one year, transferred and attended East Georgia for one year, then transferred to Georgia State University in 2011 where he got his Bachelors Degree in Exercise Science Spring 2015. While Matt attended Georgia State University, he learned Anatomy, Fitness Assessment and Exercise Prescription from Mrs. Laura Abbott, who has a Bachelors Degree in Exercise Science, Masters in Sports Medicine with a concentration in Athletic Training. He was also learned about Nutrition and Physical Fitness from Dr. Dan Benardot, a Professor of Nutrition and Professor of Kinesiology and Health. Dr. Benardot is also the Team Nutritionist for the Atlanta Falcons. He also worked with Olympic athletes for many years. |
